Here is what you’ll need to create your perfect summer gin & tonic.
Ingredients & Tools (Serves 4):
12 blackberries and/or blueberries20 fresh mint leaves2 Meyer lemons ½ cup simple syrup or agave8 ounces high quality gin2 bottles of tonic water (needed for serving glasses)Large ice cubes or chunks4 serving glasses1 large cocktail shaker1 stir straw
Method:
Place almost room temperature 3 blackberries/blueberries and 5 mint leaves into each glass and muddle together. Use optimal amount of force to force the berries to release their juice but not enough to fully smash them into a jam. The mint leaves should be throughly smacked and bruised to release the oils and scents.
Pour lemon juice, simple syrup and gin into a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake for 1 minute. Make sure to save lemons to garnish and add as finishing acidic flavor. To make simple syrup, boil 1/2 cup sugar to 1/2 cup water. Boil until sugar becomes fully incorporated into the water and remove from heat, allow it to cool before use.
Fill each glass with ice, and divide mixture from shaker into each glass. Top off each drink with tonic water, stir and serve.
