The Galaxy Note 7 is the first smartphone from Samsung to feature and iris scanner, and Samsung’s President of Mobile Division, DJ Koh hopes that it is definitely not the last. The president, in fact, is hoping to bring the technology to their mid-range smartphones its price reduces.
This is unlikely to happen anytime soon, but it is still commendable to see Samsung bring features like iris scanner to its mid-tier smartphones. Early hands-on impressions of the Galaxy Note 7 indicate that while the iris scanner is fast and works as intended, the probability of consumers using it over the fingerprint scanner is slim. It is likely that we will see the iris scanner being further refined in future iterations, and once it works reliably and accurately, Samsung will probably consider bringing it to their mid-range smartphones. Just don’t expect this to happen anytime soon though.
