Samsung has released five new videos on YouTube today to showcase what Bixby, its AI-powered digital assistant, is capable of doing. Bixby remains among the key new features of the Galaxy S8 despite the assistant being severely limited at launch.
With the voice recognition functionality of the assistant going live in Korea earlier this week, Samsung has released new videos to showcase how powerful its new assistant is to its Korean users. The videos are in Korean but they do give us a clear idea of what users will be able to achieve using voice commands on Bixby when the functionality goes live in their region. The first video shows how Bixby Voice can be used to open the gallery app, find a particular set of photos, and then do simple adjustments like rotate them or stylise them. While the videos show just how impressive Bixby can be, the problem here is that the digital assistant for now only works with a handful of system apps from Samsung that severely limit its usefulness. Samsung enabled Bixby’s voice recognition functionality, Bixby Voice, in Korea earlier this week and the feature is expected to go live in the US later this month. Initially, the voice recognition will only work with English and Korean languages, with support for other languages and enhanced functionality set to be available later this year.
