That’s apparently what happened with a security app called Virus Shield that promised one-tap security protection. The problem with Security Shield, as first reported by Android lice, is that it didn’t actually protect anything. Instead, all you got after installing the app was a button that changed from an “X” to a check mark… that’s it. No security scanning of app downloads, no active website scanning, no antivirus signatures, nothing....

Now researchers at NCCGroup have pieced together a few of the tools and techniques Lazarus hackers have been using recently, including social engineering on LinkedIn, messaging US defense contractor targets on WhatsApp, and installing the malicious downloader LCPDot. NCCGroup’s findings build on what’s already known about Lazarus hackers. The group, and its sub groups, are known to have used LinkedIn for tricking targets into installing malicious files such as Word documents with hidden macros....

Samsung and Mastercard announced today that they are extending their partnership which will allow the former to bring Samsung Pay to Europe. Samsung is taking advantage of the latter’s MasterCard Digital Enablement Service to easily deploy its mobile payment service in Europe. Mastercard is already providing Samsung with its tokenisation service in the US to allow partner banks to easily add support for Samsung Pay. With the Galaxy Note 7 launch less than a week away, the Korean company has released a teaser ad highlighting some of its features. The 30-second teaser does not show the device itself, but hints at all the new features coming to it. The video hints at the Note 7 being water resistant, featuring an iris and fingerprint scanner, and being called the Note 7 (and not Note 6). Reports and leaks have already confirmed that the Galaxy Note 7 will feature an iris scanner and an IP68 certification just like the Galaxy S7, thereby making it dust and water-resistant....

According to Sam Mobile, Samsung could be launching a new premium tablet soon.
